The oldest member of the Philippine National Team in Athletics Eduaro Buenavista, 36 (Bertek) rewound the clock back several years. The Veteran Bertek placed second at the Hong Kong Chartered Marathon. The Former SEA Games and Many time Milo Marathon Champion clocked a time of 2:24:11 finishing fourth in the Asian Category and 30th overall.

This again went under the Gold Medal standard for the SEA Games set by Singaporean Mok Ying Ren at 2:28:36. This was second time Bertek set the mark originally 2:27.14 clocking at the 2013 Milo Marathon. Which further strengthens his selection with Eric Panique for the SEA Games Marathon.

The fastest times of 2014 was by Vietnamese duo Bui Thi Anh and Hoang Quyen Thanh (2:26:32) and (2:26:38) respectively.

Buenavista is now a very strong candidate for the Gold Medal in the Marathon which he last won in the 2009 Edition in Vietnane, Laos. He still currently holds the National Record of 2:18:44.00 set at the Beppu Oila Marathon in 2004.

Meanwhile Mary Joy Tabal was just outside her personal best with a time of 1:20:37 in the Marathon placing second behind an Australian. Tabal is preparing for the SEA Games Women’s Marathon in Singapore.
