KUALA LUMPUR – National sprinter Shereen Vallabouy smashed a 30-year-old 400m national record after she clocked a time of 51.80s in the first heat of the St Mac Relays in the United States yesterday.
The 24-year-old Winona State University student beat Rabia Abdul Salam’s 1993 Asian Championships 400m outdoor record of 52.56s in Manila, Philippines.
Shereen won the first heat at Mt San Antonio College in Walnut, California, but Texas A&M University’s Jermaisha Arnold and Tierra Robinson-Jones won the event with times of 50.79s and 51.01s, respectively.
Jan’Taijah Jones of USC placed third with 51.06s, followed by Ziyah Holman of Michigan in fourth with 61.60s.
Shereen’s 51.80s performance suggests she might win gold in the 400m and 4x400m at the Cambodia SEA Games from May 5 to 17.
Nguyen Thi Tinh’s 51.83s at the 2003 SEA Games in Hanoi set the 400m record.
Shereen’s 52.27s at the Division II Track and Field Championships in Virginia, USA, last month broke Rabia’s outdoor 400m record.

Shereen Samson Vallabouy broke Malaysian Records in 400
She may miss out on the 2022 SEA Games, but it has been a stellar season for Vallabouy, who currently ranks 4th in the SEA Rankings behind Quach Thi Lan (52.46), Nguyen Thi Huyen (52.49), both from Vietnam and Sri Mayasari (53.22) of Indonesia.
Both Shereen’s parents were national athletes.

National Indoor Record
Shereen Samson Vallabouy tops the heats of the NCAA Div 2 Indoor Championships (11.03.22). In a new Malaysian indoor national record and SEA leading time of 53.88. The previous national record was held by Noraseela Khalid with 54.58s.
She then went on to win the Div 2 title in 53.79!!
