Sprints, Hurdles and Relays
The Highlight of the event which has now been well covered was Hussein Lorana breaking the Philippine Junior Record of Alhryan Labita from 48.75 to 48.70. (please click the link to Hussein Lorana to read more about this).
While in the Mens the National Team of Ronne Malipay, Clinton Kingsley Bautista, Anfernee Lopena, and Janry Ubas clocked 41.11. However, the Mapua Team of Lera, Sonio, Gomez and Vince Buhayan, took the Mapua Team to 41.85. The mark is faster than the 20-year NCAA Record set by Pirie, Dagmil, Torres and Erocido of 42.2. With Mapua bringing in 2023 UAAP HS Record Holder Kent Jardin of Adamson into their roster next year (instead of Lera in this 4×100 team).
Relay Duties continued for Lianne Diana Pama, who this week did not run individual events. The UAAP 100 and 200 Record Holder and 2022 PinoyAthletcs Junior athlete of the year teamed up with Jessel Lumapas, Sarah Dequinan and Jelly Paragile to clock 47.65 in the Womens 4×100. Beating FEU 49.20, and DLSU 51.05.
In the Absence of Pama, Lumapas won the 100m in 12.48 from Annie Mercurio (FEU) 12.55 and Erica Ruto (DLSU) 12.64.
Paragile won the 100 Hurdles in 14.27 from Sarah Dequinan in 14.95. Meanwhile, Paragile longtime boyfriend Clinton Kingsley won the Mens 110 Hurdles in 14.01, with Vergel (Unattached) at 14.61, and Okolo (FEU) at 14.71.
Coffee Piglet Bernalyn Bejoy (SEA Games Silver in 4×400) won the 400m in 57.1, from Erica Ruto of DLSU 1:01.1.
Anfernee Lopena showed he was still the top man in the 100m and the only one so far in the Weekly Relays 2 rounds to break 11 seconds. With a 10.63 clocking, he beat Alhyran Labita, and Janry Ubas both from the national team and Rocky Ramos of PinoyAthletics.
Distance: Spectrum Shines
Spectrum Player/Coach Cebu’s Prince Joey Lee won the Men’s 1500m in 4:06.71, from teammate former Palaro Champion Erwin Mancao 4:11.53 and Darren Diestro of FEU 4:14.0. Lee also made it a double with the 5000m in 15:43.21, this time beating former UAAP Champion James Orduna (UE) and Spectrum teammate Richie “Estamp”ador. While Jessa Roda topped the womens 5000m in 19:26.21.
Philippine Athletics Performance 2023: Jumps
2019 SEA Games Decathlon Champion Sarah Dequinan clinched the Women’s High Jump title with a leap of 1.70m. Surpassing 2019 SEA Youth Champion Mariel Abuan from UE, who jumped 1.56m. In the Men’s category, Ernie Calipay from FEU secured the top spot with a jump of 1.85m. Former national training pool head and SEA Games Silver Medalist, Ronne Malipay, triumphed in the Triple Jump, registering 15.45m. Angelyn Ortiz and Rica Baldemara, both from FEU, recorded jumps of 11.86m and 11.75m respectively, outperforming National Training pool contender Abcd Agamanos, who achieved 11.47m.
Throws
In the women’s discus event, Kassandra Alcantara from UE took the lead with a throw of 38.48m. Edging out ex-national training pool athlete Daniela Daynaata from DLSU, who threw 37.53m. On the men’s side, Ed Delina from UP emerged victorious in the discus with a throw of 44.17m. He surpassed national team competitors John Albert Mantua, who recorded 43.50m, Russel Ricaforte with 43.39m, and Joshua Melgar, who threw 43.28m.
