Gennah Malapit shatters National Junior Record silver SEA Games
Gennah Malapit shattered the Philippine Junior record of Fil-Heritage athlete Cerah Moren 45.74m set in 2017 at the USTF meet in San Mateo. The performance saw the 5’9 Malapit take the SEA Games silver behind Jiraya Wichaidit of Thailand who hurled the Javelin 52.60m. Malapit also finished surprisingly ahead of 29-year-old Evalyn Palabrica who retained her bronze from the last SEA Games with 48.31. Surprisingly no Vietnamese women javelin thrower showed up to the event.
The performance should put Malapit in strong consideration for Asian Junior Championships in Yecheon June 4-7. Malapit is also very close to the 50.00m qualifying mark for the World Junior Championships originally scheduled for Lima, Peru but has withdrawn so a new host is yet to be decided.
It also puts her as the front-runner for the Prestigious PinoyAthletics Junior Female Athlete of the year. The only non-medal award “that matters” in Philippine Athletics.
