Dutee Chand became the second Indian sprinter to win gold in a major global event. Following on From Hima Das gold in the 400 at the 2018 World Juniors.

Chand took the win at the World University Games in Napoli, Italy clocking 11.31.

She was out fast from the blocks, held off to win by a hairline from her fast closing opponents, with Switzerland’s Ajla Del Ponte nabbing silver in a photo finish second with 11.33 and Germany’s Kwayie with Bronze in 11.39.

Dutee had clocked 11.26 at the Asian Champs in Doha, Qatar in the Semi-Finals but faded to 5th in the Finals.

At World Uni Games, Chand clocked 11.48 and 11.41, winning her heats and semis.

Saving her muscle elasticity for the final where she unleashed a shockwave in the final.

Her Personal Best of 11.24 was established in 2016.

The 23-year-old Chand in previous years had won a battle in the courts when her Gender came under question.

Chand’s biggest highlight before the global win was the 2014 Asian Junior title in the 200m and 2 silvers at the 2018 Asian Games in the 100 and 200.
The University Games record of the Great Marlies Gohr of Germany has stood for 40 years with a majestic time of 11.00 and was set at altitude at Ciudad, Mexico.
