Martinez lowers Philippine 100m Junior Record twice in one meet

Brandon Boyd Martinez continued to lower the Philippine Junior Record he set on May 3 at 10.59. The 17-year-old clocked 10.57 +1.7 to win heat 3 at the 2023 Kagawa Rikukai Record Meeting and 77th National Sports Festival.
In the final Martinez further lowered the National Junior Record with 10.53 +1.1. Martinez finished third behind Hono Todo at 10.31, and Yoshioko Ikuya at 10.42.
Brandon Boyd Martinez is slightly ahead of middle-distance ace Hussein Lorana and local sprinter Renier Ranges in the Junior Athlete of the Year award for 2023 at the halfway mark for 2023.
The Performance puts Martinez at #6 in the Philippines All Time Mens Lists. It also Ranks him as #1 in the Philippines for 2023 now in both the Mens 100 and 200. Slightly ahead now of Phi Based Anfernee Lopena who has run 10.55 so far this year.

Brandon Martinez clocks 21.17 at 16
Brandon Boyd Martinez (born 2006) set new Personal bests in the 100m and 200m. He timed 10.59 and 21.17. Martinez’s performance of 10.59 is below the Philippine Junior Record of Daniel Noval’s 10.74 set in 2012 in the Thailand National Open. While his mark of 21.17 +1.1 is the 2nd= Fastest ever time by a Filipino athlete equal to former national record holder Ralph ‘Waldy’ Soguilon. Only Trenten Anthony Beram the 2017 SEA Games Champion who holds the national record of 20.84 is faster. Both Brandon’s times of 10.59 and 21.17 were run on the 3rd and 5th of May in Kagawa, Japan.
Brandon was born in San Pablo, Laguna. So has Filipino citizenship both his parents are Filipinos. His time of 21.17 was faster than the 21.20 time of Fil-Heritage athlete UMajesty Williams at the Philippine Nationals. And his 100-meter time is ahead of 10.77 of Fil-Heritage athlete and National 100m Champion Nolan Crespo.
The 200 Meter time ranks Brandon behind SEA Games Champion Puripol Boonson who is also 16 years of age and has run 20.54 (PB of 20.29) and Rueben Lee of Singapore with 21.16 in the 2023 SEA Rankings.
PinoyAthletics recommended Brandon as his time of 21.17 is just outside the bronze-winning time of 21.17 at the last edition of the Asian Juniors in Gifu, South Korea in 2018. The 2020 and 2022 editions of the Asian Junior Championships were cancelled due to the pandemic. The Asian Juniors brings together all the best athletes 19 and below in Asia.
PinoyAthletics had passed on Brandon’s details to PATAFA coach Sean Guevarra. And endorsed Brandon to the 2023 Asian Junior Championships in Yecheon, South Korea June 4-7.
Brandon Martinez sets Philippines Junior 200m Record
Brandon Boyd Martinez has erased the Philippine Junior Records in the 200m. He clocked a time of 21.57 +1.5 at Kagawa Prefectural Inter-Highschool Championship, in Kagama, Japan on June 6, 2022. The mark also is the fastest time ever by a 16-year-old Filipino.
His time erased both the 200m Hand Timed 21.2 PB of Julio Bayaban set in Marikina in 1980, and Raul Abangan set 21.84 on 10/11/1984 at the Intercity Meet in Manila (at 17 years of age).
The Performance has now been reflected on the Philippine National Junior Records listings on PinoyAthletics.
Martinez’s performance also ranks him 10th on the Philippine All-Time List in the seniors not bad for a 16-year-old. The Philippines’ open record still is with Trenten Beram the 2017 SEA Games 200 and 400 Champion with a time of 20.84 at the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur.
Brandon Martinez was born to two Filipino parents in San Pablo, Laguna, Philippines. He has had a valid Philippine passport from 21 Aug 2017 to 20 August 2022. His Passport expired. But all his performances while his passport was valid are counted for National Junior Records, National Age Grade records, and National Rankings. Due to school commitments (being 300km away from the nearest embassy), he was looking at renewing his passport on April 3. Brandon is a full-blooded Filipino and is a Filipino citizen.
Brandon has clocked a 10.66 +1.6 100m time on October 16, 2022, at Kanonji; aswell as a windy 10.49 +2.5 at the same competition; which is when his Filipino passport expired so cannot be included in the Philippines Athletics statistics. He stands 1.75m tall.
On the local scene in 2023, Fil-Heritage Sprinter UMajesty Williams clocked 21.20 at the Philippine National Open, and 21.40 in the final (he Had run 20.86 before obtaining his Filipino passport). He finished with silver in the 2023 Philippine National Open behind an athlete from Iraq.
2022 Philippines Junior Athlete of the Year Guhan De Luna Garcia, (who is still 19). The Weekly Relay Champion, and 2022 National silver medalist. Guhan clocked 21.3/21.63 PB at the PRISAA Region 1 Championships on March 10. Guhan did not participate in the 2023 Philippine National Open. (24.5 to 21.3/21.63 in less than 2 years with the PinoyAthletics Program).
While Nolan Crespo has a PB of 21.41 from 2022. Clocked 21.95 at the Philippine National Championships to finish 5th.
