BMI Calculator Philippines: How to Calculate BMI
Do you think BMI Index is an excellent way to measure someone’s health?
What is the Purpose of BMI?
BMI is designed to give helpful information for studying large populations at schools, like a city or a state population. It is not intended to provide valuable information to each individual.
So why do we use it?
Because it is simple to calculate using a BMI Calculator, and there is nothing better that’s nearly as simple.
Some people like to make comparisons like this: “Did Dr. X’s 1000 patients this year have a better BMI than those same patients did last year?”
For an individual, BMI is useful if the individual has an average build, meaning:
- Middle shoulder and hip-width for your height
- Average bone diameters
- Average musculature
- You will receive less accurate results from your BMI if any of these things are far from average.
- You can do this test yourself by wrapping your thumb and forefinger of one hand around the wrist of your other arm and squeezing just enough to feel bone.
- Your BMI is probably not accurate if your fingers overlap a lot; you may have small bones if your fingers overlap a lot.
- The BMI of your body is unlikely to be accurate if your fingers are too far apart; if they touch then you probably have big bones.
How BMI is Calculated
So How do you Compute BMI? The BMI index does not measure the fat in your body directly.
You can find out what is considered a healthy Body Mass Index by reading this article along with a Free BMI Calculator and charts. A guide to calculating BMI is also provided.
We can use it instead to determine whether our weight is healthy. The value is determined only by the person’s weight and height.
Measuring the BMI Index can place us in a couple of categories:
- Underweight — less than 18.5
- Healthy BMI weight — between 18.6 and 24.9
- Overweight — between 25 and 29.9
- Obese — over 30
Keep in mind that BMI does not consider many factors and should be used as guidance only.
How to Calculate BMI
To measure our BMI, we can use the following formula:
Regarding athletes, we will be doing a follow-up article on body composition tests, which will be more appropriate for testing.
Calculator BMI
Measures body fat based on height and weight that applies to adult men and BMI for women.
- Enter your weight and height using standard or BMI calculator metric measures.
- Select “Compute BMI,” and your Body Mass Index will appear below.
How to Calculate BMI
Because they all use the same formula, any BMI calculator you find online will give you accurate results. Some allow you to use half-inches, giving you more accurate results. Sometimes the BMI calculator will round up a half-inch.
However, BMIs aren’t an accurate way to find if you’re a healthy weight or not. ACCORDING TO THE BMI CALCULATOR, the BMI calculator won’t consider your body fat percentage or your frame (for instance, someone with fragile bones may be underweight).
If a very muscular person with large bones calculates their BMI, they may find that the BMI calculator says they’re overweight even though their weight comes from muscle and bone.
Calculating BMI
Body Mass Index is your weight (in kilograms) over your height squared (in centimeters).
Let’s calculate, however, using pounds and inches.
Especially Relevant, the Body Mass Index of a person who is 5’3″ and weighs 125 lbs is calculated as follows or can be done using a BMI Calculator:
|
2. Multiply the height in inches by 0.025 (the metric conversion factor)
|
3. Square the answer from step 2
|
4. Divide the answer from step 1 by the answer from step 3
|
The BMI Index for a person who is 5’3″ and weighs 125 lbs is 22.7 or, practically, 23. |
.A healthy BMI index ranges between 19 and 25.
- While the more sedentary your lifestyle.
- Hence the closer your weight should be to the lower end of the recommended range.
- Also, it is important not to increase your weight significantly after age 18.
- Hence limit that weight gain to less than 11 pounds.
- While the good news about this recommendation is that if you follow the exercise and dietary guidelines, it is much easier to maintain a healthy BMI.

Accurate BMI Calculator
18.5 to 24.9 would be an ideal BMI. A crude way to determine the perfect weight is to subtract 100 from your height in CM.
Let us say you are five feet, i.e., 153 cm, then your ideal weight should be 153–100=53 Kg.
A better metric to analyze health would be (WHtR), defined as waist circumference divided by height, measured in the same units.
The WHtR is a measure of the distribution of body fat.
Higher values of WHtR indicate a higher risk of obesity-related cardiovascular diseases correlated with abdominal obesity.
Ideal WHtR for men is 0.43 to 0.52 Ideal WHtR BMI for women is 0.42 to 0.48

- PI,
- Corpulence index (CI),
- new BMI,

Difference between BMI & BMR
BMI
Body mass index (BMI) is a value derived from mass (weight) and height. … only 21% of men and 31% of women were obese according to BMI, meaning that we found BMI to underestimate the number of obese subjects.
BMR
Basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the rate of energy expenditure per unit of time by endothermic animals at rest.
BMR is the amount of energy per unit of time needed to keep the body functioning at rest.
Those processes are breathing, blood circulation, controlling body temperature, cell growth, brain and nerve function, and muscle contraction.
BMR affects the rate at which a person burns calories and, ultimately, whether they maintain, gain, or lose weight.
The BMR accounts for about 60 to 75% of the daily calorie expenditure by individuals.
What is BMR?
The meaning of BMR as understood by people on this earth is the most unhealthy meaning assigned to a term.
BMR is the number of calories used in a day to manage vital organs and vital life processes.
BMR is not linked to exercise.
How important is it to know our BMR?
Higher BMR means a person is healthy. His vital organs are healthy. Eating to maintain the current level of BMR is most unhealthy.
We should focus on learning the meaning and implications of BMR differently.
It isn’t very sensible to know your BMR. It is impossible to know your BMR. People link BMR to exercise and whatnot. Understand very clearly that if on a day you suddenly wake up and become conscious of health and spend a few hours in the gym or high-intensity exercise, your BMR will take go down drastically. That may be the cause of serious diseases.
I know of people who had never been active in their life. And at the age of 35 plus they decided to be very busy. Their immune system went for a toss.
Had terrible blood sugar. I could not control my blood sugar will 50 units of insulin or anything. Skin looked dead all over the body—no energy levels.
The thyroid is the most common fallout of High-Intensity Exercises.
When your BMR goes down the hill all of a sudden, and it isn’t easy to maintain the vital organs, the body resorts to managing the situation by modifying thyroid function.
The thyroid is not a disease. This is my own doing. We can quickly reverse it. But there are no medical systems that can define BMR and hence the conditions on this earth. Everybody is busy copying and pasting.
Conclusion
Can BMI be useful? — to some extent, yes.
Nevertheless, it should not be considered a valuable tool to judge any medical conditions since many factors are not considered. Nonetheless, we could use it to show potential health problems.
There are better and more accurate ways to measure body fat percentages.
BMI can be very misleading too.
Furthermore, this is the problem with it. It does not take into consideration much stuff. For example, let us take a muscular person even though he has a very low-fat percentage. He could easily be classified as obese.
