Burghardt qualifies for the Olympics.

In the 100 and 4×100 meter events, Alexandra Burghardt has been selected for the German Olympic Team in Tokyo in 2021. She also wanted to run the 200 meters, but she didn’t meet the requirements. Nevertheless, the 27-year-old has had a fantastic season, breaking both her 100- and 200-meter personal records this year with times of 11.14 and 23.0. Prior records for the former hurdler were 11.32 (2015) and 23.46. (2019). Burghardt completed the feat by winning her first senior German 100 and 200m national titles in Braunschweig in June.

Interview

We asked Alexandra Burghardt about her quest to qualify for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics in the 100,200 and 4×100 relays. Surprisingly at the 2017 World Relays Event in the Bahamas, Alex was part of the German team that won gold in the 4×100.

So the 23-year-old is a sprinter/hurdler with best times of 11.32 in the 100 and 13.41 in the 100 Hurdles.

And the tall, muscular German girl stands at 1.81m, almost 6 feet tall, and weighs 70kg.

Besides, in 2018, Burghardt decided to focus on the 100 and 200. She set a new 200 PB of 23.57 at Claremont on 23 April.

One of her highest achievements was competing in the 4×100 at the World Championships in Beijing, finishing a credible 5th place.

While Focusing on the Hurdles as a junior. At 17, Burghardt won gold at the European Championships in the 4×100.

The following year (2012), she took silver in the World Juniors in Barcelona’s 4×100. While at the European U20 Champs in 2015 Estonia, she took silver in the 100m in 11.54 and Gold in the 4×100.

Also, more recently, in 2017; Burghardt was part of the Gold-winning German squad in the 4×100 at the World Relay Championships in Nassau, Bahamas.

Burghardt runs for the German Club MTG Manheim; Valerij Bauer and Angela Salzinger coach her.
