HEADLINE: July 15, Cali, with a cool sounding name Japan’s Abdul Hakim Sani Brown, 16, won the world youth championship in Cali, Colombia, in a time of 10.28 (-0.4).

Please note, as reported by the IAAF, this is not actually a Championship Record as Darrel Brown of Trinidad and Tobago ran 10.24 at the 2nd World Youth Champs in Debrecen, Hungary in 2001.

Brown came to Cali with a PB of 10.30 in May, which he tied in the heats and the semi-finals. He left his rivals well behind. Derick Silva of Brazil took Silver in 10.49, and Rechmial Miller of Great Britain Bronze in 10.59.

Sani Brown Parents

Not a very Japanese-sounding name? Brown is the product of a Ghanaian father and a Japanese mother. Ghana has produced some world-class sprinters, and Japan is no slouch as well in world sprinting.
