In a remarkable display of athleticism, Kay Cundangan from Paksit Runners Cebu clinched the women’s title at the 2023 Bohol International Marathon held on August 27, 2023. Cundangan completed the race with an impressive time of three hours, 17 minutes, and 40 seconds, marking her first-ever 42k victory.
Early Training Pays Off for Cundangan
“Early morning training sessions have finally paid off. The hard work I put in was evident on race day, making it a joyful run,” Cundangan expressed in a Facebook post following her win. The 30-year-old runner described her triumph as “gratifying,” emphasizing that her primary focus was not just to secure a podium finish but to meet her coach’s time targets in preparation for the upcoming Cebu Marathon.
Previous Performance and Future Goals
In the previous edition of the prestigious Cebu Marathon, Cundangan finished in fourth place, clocking in at 3h32.11. “I was genuinely surprised by my finish time at the 2023 Bohol International Marathon because I wasn’t constantly checking my watch. I ran by feeling, soaking in the beautiful views of Panglao and enjoying the company of fellow runners along the route. It was an incredibly fun experience,” she added.

Cundangan credits her success to her unwavering dedication and hard work. “You can’t achieve what you haven’t worked for. I’ve invested a lot of effort to ensure I wouldn’t struggle on race day, and it has certainly paid off,” she concluded.
Ethiopian Girma Tilahun Takes Men’s Title at 2023 Bohol International Marathon: Full Race Results
In a stunning display of endurance and speed, Ethiopian veteran marathoner Girma Tilahun clinched the men’s title at the 2023 Bohol International Marathon. The race, which started and ended at the BE Grand Resort Bohol, saw Tilahun crossing the finish line in two hours, 35 minutes, and 34 seconds.
Top Three Finishers in Men’s and Women’s Marathon
Joining Tilahun on the men’s podium were Florendo Lapiz with a time of 2:42.13 and Erwin Jopson Jr. finishing in 3:01.42. On the women’s side, Evamie Villarin and Glena Rose were the runners-up, clocking in at 3:47.54 and 4:23.12, respectively.
Highlights from the 21k, 10k, and 5k Races
Cherry Andrin dominated the 21k half marathon, finishing in 1:35.00, followed by Gella Mayang in second place with a time of 1:41.19. Rona Lacanlale secured the third spot, completing the race in 1:48.50.
In the 10k category, elite triathlete Jonathan Pagaura ruled the men’s division with a time of 37:10, while April Joy Alampayan led the women’s division, finishing in 41:23.
Ace Athletes Shine in 5k Race
In the 5k race at the 2023 Bohol International Marathon, track and field star Asia Paraase showcased her winning form, topping the category in 18:59. Dirk Alparito led the men’s 5k race, finishing in 18:36.
