European Athletics Champs canceled due to COVID-19.

April 25, 2020

Paris: The 2020 European Athletics Championships, due to be held in Paris toward the finish of August, have been dropped given the COVID-19 episode, coordinators said on Thursday.

“The choice to drop was driven by the progressing corona virus pandemic and the related dangers connected to the present circumstance, which are a long way from being levelled out, just as the current restriction on mass social affairs in France,” European Athletics said in an announcement

The titles turned into the most recent major game to be dropped or deferred by the pandemic with others, including the Olympic Games and soccer’s European Athletics Champs and Copa America, which have all been pushed back by one year.

Jean Gracia, leader of the Organizing Committee Paris 2020, expressed,

“Driven by the passion around a competent, dynamic and motivated team, we studied specific plans geared around hosting the event. However, despite great expectations on the part of the athletes, we’ve made the decision with the FFA to take the logical step in terms of the responsibility that has guided our decisions over recent weeks. This decision, which has been hard to make, is also a way for us to contribute to the fight to combat the pandemic, by avoiding sizeable gatherings of people from a great variety of backgrounds, both nationally and internationally.”
