2018 Philippines University Games Athletics started on 23rd October 2018, Day 1 of Athletics.

First of all, only Ten schools entered. Certainly, A national university games championship should really have more schools entered.

While the UAAP is next month, the venue for UAAP is still not 100% sure, but after a meeting, today will be announced.

Most noteworthy is and used hand times. In contrast, the results should be rounding up to the nearest 10th, which they haven’t.

Hence the event is also not sanctioned by PATAFA.

So performances cannot be considered for ‘Official’ IAAF Rankings, Records, and Selection purposes due to the inaccuracy of timings. Most noteworthy is no wind gauge or wind readings are recorded in the official results.

2018 Philippines University Games: 800m Times Correction

In contrast, please note the recording in the Men’s 800m is incorrect. Consequently, add +6 secs for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.  1:57, 1:57, 1:58, 1:59. Likewise, Edwin Bajo won over Osorio of UE, with the two UST men getting 3rd and 4th. This seems about right as Bajo has timed 1:55.75 at the NCAA at the beginning of the year. (SEA Games silver medalist Marco Vilog leads the rankings with 1:50.75 at the Asian Games).

While John Lloyd Osorio had a PB of 1:56.71 when he took bronze at the 2016 Palarong Pambansa.

2018 Philippines University Games: Womens 800m Pamatian over Calis

2018 Philippines University Games Athletics 14
A very tired Louielyn ‘Lot Lot’ Pamatian wins the 800m at The Philippine University Games in Dumaguete.

While the Women’s 800m saw two UST training partners trained by Coach Emmanuel Calipes go 1-2. Consequently, Graduating student Louielyn ‘Lot Lot’ Pamatian, the UAAP 800m Champion, took the win in  2:16.9 (PB is 2:13.97).

The mark puts Pamatian unofficially 5th this year in the Philippine 800 Rankings as she aims to defend her UAAP title next month. At the same time, Pamatian has represented the Philippines at the ASEAN School Games and World University Games.

Most noteworthy is that she left the national team as she preferred to train with her coach Emmanuel Calipes than the national coaches and focus on finishing her studies. As a result, Pamatian will be graduating this year.

With Jeanne ‘Master Speech’ Calis, the Palarong Pambansa record holder in 800 Girls, took silver in 2:19.2 (outside her Seasons best 2:17.83, and PB 2:12.27, 2015). Hence the two were well clear of the other 3 competitors in the 5 woman final.

While Calis led the whole way in 1:04 through the first 400, then 1:40 through 600. But Lotlot, who stuck close behind the whole race, closed her down the last 100m. Hence pulling away for the win.

In 1500m, Calis turned the tables, winning in 4:56 over Pamatian 5:00. Unfortunately, lovely Gemeroy of RTU took bronze.

At the same time, her PB is 5.72m. And her teammate Elvy Villagoniza the 2017 Palarong Pambansa champion, made it yet another 1-2 finish for the University of Santo Tomas with a 5.55m effort. Again very far from the bronze medalists.    2018 Philippines University Games Athletics 17
