Thai Ace Sunthorntuan exterminates meet Record
Pitchaaya Sunthorntuan, 18 improved on his PB of 47.15 which won him the Thai Junior title last month. The Thai clocked 46.87, which knocked exactly a whole second off the meet record of 47.87 an Ifan Anugrah Setiawan set in Chiang Mai last year. Setiawan also went under his old record timing 47.55, but his effort was only good enough for silver. Another Thai Munrot took Bronze in 47.91. Meanwhile the Philippines Marjun Sulleza was 6th in 49.78 and Jan Vincent Alejandro 7th in 50.66.
Thailand now has 4 guys running 46, and 6-8 guys running 47 secs. Which puts them at a very good position for the 4×400 at the SEA Games. Suthorntuan was part of the Thai 4×400 that got Bronze in the Asian Champs in 3.06.48. They timed 3.06.81 at the last SEA Games Suthorntuan wasnt a member of the team back then. But some of the stronger runners from that team did not run at Asian Champs.
Pole Vaulter performance good enough to win World Youths
Meanwhile in the Pole Vault Idan Fauzan Richsan of Indonesia, kept Indonesia in the books with a 5.00m win. Richsan improved on his previous best of 4.80m. He also shattered the meet record of Thanthira Kontawat who leapt 4.65m Surabaya in 2012. The Thai and Indonesians swapping records in 400 and Pole Vault today. Richsan was the bronze medalist at the Asian Youth Champs in Bangkok in May.
Another thing to note is Richsan who is born in 2000, leap of 5.00m is good enough to have gained gold or at least silver in the IAAF orld U18 Champs in Nairobi, Kenya. The winning leap this morning was 5.00m by Matthias Orban of France, Tamnais of Cyprus took silver in 4.85m and Bronze was only 4.70m by Ilya Kravchenko of Ukraine.
Richsan leapt 4.80m at the Asian Youth Champs so for sure would have medalled. Another athlete that competed at neither World Youth or ASEAN School Games was Kasinpob Chomchanad of Thailand who won the Asian Youth Champs in 5.00m. Also could have medalled. Perhaps a lost chance for the Indonesian and Thai Athletics associations for a bigger medal.
Palaro Record Holder Francis Obiena took silver equalling his competition PB of 4.30m. Obiena was the Gold medalist at the SEA Youth Champs in March in the Philippines. Muhammad Afzan of Malaysia took the bronze.
Jessel Lumapas the Palaro 400 Champion took the Silver in the Girls 400m. Behind defending champion Hoang Thi Hanh of Vietnam 56.11. Lumapas time of 57.20 improved on her 57.8 best time from the Palaro. Lumapas who hails from Cavite is ranked third in the national ranking list behind Kayla Richardson and Zion Nelson who are also both still juniors.
The Boys 4×100 also got Silver in 42.60 to Thailand 41.0.
