SANTA CRUZ, LAGUNA– Javelin, Shot put, and Hurdles are the curtain raisers on the first day of action for the Athletics Tournament of 2014 Palarong Pambansa 2014 here in Laguna Sports Complex, Brgy. Bubukal, Santa Cruz, Laguna. Â Starting at 4:00 PM, the schedules of final events are as follows:

Palarong Pambansa 2014 Day 1: Cabrera upsets Palaro Champion for Surprise Gold in Girls Javelin

SANTA CRUZ, LAGUNA- Zeanne Faith Cabrera of CALABARZON Region snatched the first athletics gold on day one of the Athletics Tournament Palarong Pambansa 2014 here in Sta. Cruz, Laguna on 04 May.
The St. Michael’s College of Laguna-Binan is stand-out and raised her personal best by taping an impressive throw of 40.31 meters. This surpassed Monica Andaya’s (NCR) ‘s performance, which registered 39.36 meters, while Western Visayas bet Jerramay Rubias anchored 38.06 meters. The Heavily favored Jerramay Rubias, who was last year’s Palaro Champion, was the pre-event favorite with 40.16m.
Meanwhile, Western Visayas Bet Jose Jerry Beliberste Jr, who is also the current Batang Pinoy Champion Long Jump, captured gold and broke his personal best at 7.08m. This is also the first gold of WVRAA in Athletics for this year’s Palaro. Marin James Esteban of Central Luzon marked a jump of 6.70m securing the silver medal, while his comrade Erson Jay Osteo settled for the Bronze Medal.
Palarong Pambansa 2014 Athletics Pachecho Shatters Palaro Shot Put Record
Bryan Pachecho of Aurora Province (CLRAA), who is better known as a Javelin Thrower (Bronze 2013 Asean Schools), captured gold in the Shot put and created a new Palaro Record of 15.32m (6kg shotput), which erased the previous record set by Rich Cabanyug (WVRAA) at 13.90m.
The Baler National High School stand-out nearly inched the National Junior Record of  Eliezer Sunang, 15.32m. Pacheco jousted Ron Mols Andaya of Sindangan, Zamboanga Del Norte (Region IX), who threw 14.48m, settling for silver, and Wendell Llames of CALABARZON, who marked 14.07m, capturing bronze.

2014 Palarong Pambansa Athletics Day 2 Results: Esteban captures gold

Martin James Esteban of Central Luzon Region captured gold in Triple Jump Secondary Boys during the Athletics Tournament of 2014 Palarong Pambansa at Laguna Sports Complex, Sta. Cruz, Laguna on 05-May. Esteban jumped 14.31m, which enabled him to trounce Kirk Cire Bacas of Northern Mindanao, who marked a 14.25m performance, while third placer Rogil Pablo of Western Visayas Region hit the sand at 13.90m.

SANTA CRUZ, LAGUNA- National Capital Region (NCR) shoved triple victory. They won elementary boys, girls, and secondary boys in the 400m hurdles during the Athletics tournament in 2014 Palarong Pambansa here at Laguna Sports Complex, Brgy. Bubukal Sta. Cruz, Laguna on 07-May.
Hurdlers from imperial Manila led by Jaime Mejia from UP Integrated School (UPIS) captured first place in secondary boys by clocking 54.70 seconds together with colleagues Gerald Christian Grafil of Aurora Quezon Elementary School, Manila, who registered a time of 1:02 minutes, and Ellah Therese Sirilan who sneaked gold in elementary girls with a time of 1:08.7
Meanwhile, CALABARZON region stand-out, Josefina Yjay Baloloy, was first placed in the secondary girls’ category, taking a strong finish of 1:04:1 minute. Baloloy, who hails from Cainta, Rizal, is also the region’s best in 100m hurdles, which will take place tomorrow, Thursday, 08-May.

SANTA CRUZ, LAGUNA- Western Visayas’ bet Mary Anthony Diesto captured gold in the Long Jump Secondary Girls during day three of the Athletics Tournament at the 2014 Palarong Pambansa here in Laguna Sports Complex, Brgy. Bubukal, Santa Cruz, Laguna on 06-May.
The Bacolodena Diesto registered a 5.39 jump, her new personal best, overcoming Angel Carino of CALABARZON, who marked 5.21m. At the same time, Jessa, Mayor of Cagayan Valley(CAVRAA), etched 5.11m at the pit, which landed her the bronze medal.
Diesto, who hails from Negros Occidental National High School, Bacolod City, has been a staple in ASEAN School Games for the past two years and one of the 100m secondary girls’ favorites’ finals as she hit 12.5 seconds during time trials. Diesto will face Eastern Visayas Region bet and Batang Pinoy Champion Karen Janario, who clocked 12.7 seconds.
The finals for the 2014 Palaro century dash will take place on Wednesday afternoon 07-May. Diesto has failed to medal in this event three years in a row, making the final. Tomorrow will be a real test for Diesto to claim the Palaro 100m title finally.

Palarong Pambansa 2014 Athletics Pacheco Hauls Double Record Break in Throwing

SANTA CRUZ, LAGUNA- Baler, Aurora prodigy Bryan Pacheco etched another record-breaking performance as he pierced an impressive 62.47m throw during the Javelin Throw competition at the 2014 Palarong Pambansa Athletics Tourney here in Laguna, Sports Complex, Sta. Cruz, Laguna on 06-May.
Pacheco representing Central Luzon Region Athletic Association (CLRAA), grabbed his second gold by lancing Joshua Vincent Patalud of NCR, who settled for silver with a throw of 61.46m and dominating Northern Mindanao’s bet Rejohn Cliff Gadian who garnered 57.06m, which landed for the bronze medal spot.
Pacheco erased his previous record in Javelin, which formerly stood at 57.81m (700g), and wiped off the 12-year history of Alledio Lumabao from the Ilocos Region, which stands at  59.18m (800g).
Meanwhile, John Paul Plomeda added another gold for Western Visayas Athletics by dominating Discus Throw Elementary Level by etching a 28.83m distance. Following him was his colleague Archie Sarabia who garnered a 26.56m throw and landed in third place was MIMAROPA’s Joebert Bartolome, who landed bronze with a throw of  26.05m.

CALABARZON’s Rutaquio Conquers Palarong Pambansa 2014 Steeplechase

Gilbert Rutaquio of CALABARZON emerged victorious in the secondary boys’ steeplechase. He survived the excruciating race during day three of the Athletics tournament at the 2014 Palarong Pambansa at Laguna Sports Complex, Brgy. Bubukal, Sta Cruz, Laguna on 06-May.
Rutaquio did a strong finish by clocking 10:04.6, which enabled him to add another gold for this year’s Palaro host region. He outclassed Cagayan Valley Region’s (CAVRAA) bet McLord Cabalonga, who finished second with a time of 10:10.8, while Earl Casinabe of Northern Mindanao (NMRAA) settled for third by ticking a 10:20.2 performance.

SANTA CRUZ, LAGUNA- Kenneth Rafanan of the CALABARZON region fails Central Luzon’s wonder Bryan Pacheco’s attempt to sweep in all high school boys throwing events by snatching Discus Throw secondary boys win during the Athletics Tournament at the 2014 Palarong Pambansa here in Laguna Sports Complex, Brgy. Bubukal Sta. Cruz, Laguna on 07-May.
Rafanan conquers the turf against Pacheco by etching a throw of 40.60m, which is way beyond the Baler-based prodigy’s 36.94m performance. On the bronze medal, SOCCSKSARGEN region’s kid Ryan Penaso crafted a throw of 35.83m.
Palaro Track Princess: Mary Anthony Diesto Wins Century Dash

SANTA CRUZ, LAGUNA- Bacolod’s Pride Mary Anthony Diesto adds another laurel for Western Visayas Region Athletic Association (WVRAA) as she dominates the 100m sprints secondary-girls at the 2014 Palarong Pambansa here in Laguna Sports Complex, Brgy. Bubukal, Sta. Cruz, Laguna on 07-May.
Diesto, who earlier captured gold in the long jump and silver in the triple jump, affirms her place as an emerging star in Philippine Athletics. Jousting the Eastern Visayas Region tandem with Leah Creer and Karen Janario, Diesto managed to have a good start, which gives her an advantage over her rivals.
It was a fantastic effort from Diesto, who raced won when her first footstep hit the ground. Diesto executed a perfect start pulling away to lead the race from beginning to finish, leaving her opponents struggling to catch her in the race’s dying stages. A final surge saw her pull away from a comfortable 2 stride win over Leah Ann Creer, with Karen Janario left behind at the start having to work extra hard to the line to snatch the bronze.
Diesto clocked 12.4 seconds, Creer 12.6, and Janario 12.8 seconds.
Palaro Sprint Princess
The emotion and tears of joy started flowing from the 17-year-old as she knew she had lived the journey at the Palaro and finally won the 100m title after failing to medal four years in a row; she had done what before had seemed impossible, and that memory of winning the prestigious century dash at the Palaro perhaps will be cherished for life.
The Negros Occidental National High School (Bacolod)Â Â stand-out plans to become a varsity athlete in De La Salle University-Manila (Taft) next school year 2014-2015.
Even though they cannot catch the gold, Creer and Janario give their region a good finish in the high school girl’s sprints despite the limitations in training facilities due to the onset of Typhoon Yolanda. Creer plans to join Diesto in De La Salle University (Taft) Athletics team next UAAP season in her senior high year.

SANTA CRUZ, LAGUNA- Davao Region Athletic Association (DAVRAA) bet Berneil Cabanda stunned Athletics powerhouse regions by emerging as the champion in 100m sprints elementary boys during the Athletics tournament at the 2014 Palarong Pambansa here at Laguna Sports Complex, Brgy. Bubukal Sta. Cruz, Laguna on 07-May. Cabanda, who was ranked third during the century dash time trials, jousted his rivals from track favorites of CALABARZON and NCR by sneaking a slim victory at the last few meters of the race by clocking 12.01.5 seconds.
Cabanda, a product of Jose Timbol Jr. Central School, Davao del Sur, added another gold for the 2015 Palaro candidate host region.
Meanwhile, NCRAA sprinter Jomar Udtohan emerged victorious in secondary boys 100m. The San Sebastian College product maintained his sprinting form, did a strong finish, broke the palaro record by etching a time of 10.8 seconds, and secured another gold for the capital city. Udtohan is also the current record holder in 100m juniors for NCAA set last March 2014.

SANTA CRUZ, LAGUNA- Northern Mindanao Athletic Association (NMRAA) Athletics team went to a golden harvest. They shovel victories in the long-distance running Athletics tournament. At the 2014 Palarong Pambansa here at the Laguna Sports Complex, Brgy. Bubukal Sta. Cruz, Laguna on 08-May.
Leading the sweep is Kevin Capangpangan of Iligan City. Who won the 5000m run early this morning by clocking 15:54:2 minutes and capturing the 1500m secondary boys on the same day? Simultaneously, her distaff colleagues Camila Tubiano (Elementary Level) and Jie Ann Calis (Secondary Girls). Outlasted their rivals and savored both first-place finishes.
